The ‘Moulinage’ and the ‘Ferme’ are set about 100 m apart from each other.

The Moulinage lies alongside the small river, the Auzene, which was used to run the silk mill many years ago. The silk factory is no longer in use, but there are still remnants of the machinery which can be seen in the basement of the building. In the 19th century there were approximately 500 of these moulinages in the Ardeche, which used to be known for its silk culture and its mulberry trees on whose leaves the silkworms fed. During the Second World War, the boom in silk production came to an abrupt end due to the development of cheaper man-made materials, such as rayon and nylon.

We have converted this large building into four spacious gites for self catering accommodation: Papillon and Bobine (each 120 sq m), Filature (100 sq m) and Cocon (40 sq m). The thick walls of the building ensure that during the summer the gites are pleasantly cool and the many large windows provide a bright and cheerful atmosphere.

The Ferme is the farmhouse approximately 110m upstream. It has been built, like the Moulinage, from local stone, which is typical of the many smallholdings in this area. Originally one part of the Ferme was a corn mill and the other a café for the peasants waiting for their corn to be milled and for passing travellers.
We have recently converted it into our largest gite (200sqm).
